First Sunday in Advent Isaiah 64:1-9, Mark 13:24-37

In the first of our Advent sermon series around the question, "What are you waiting for?", we use the prayer of the people in Isaiah and the words of Jesus in Mark to consider what it looks like to wait among hopes unfulfilled. We wait for so many thingsâbut are we willing to wait, steadfastly, not silently but with shouts for justice, not passively but with hope that puts us on edge, on tiptoe--active, alert, expectant, pleading with God to come among us again, to reclaim this whole creation fully as Godâs own?
